By LEE4HIM
I've always been a fan of Gateway products. I have owned many of their laptops and have been very satisfied. This netbook does not dissapoint. Gateway makes a great quality Netbook, however, any typical user that wants to do more than just lightly browse the Net(use Windows Media Player, Antivirus, have multiple programs open) is gonna want to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB(the MAX for this Netbook is 2GB RAM according to Gateway's website). The first step was finding a compatible RAM which I purchsed on Amazon, of coarse, since I am a Prime member. If your interested in which one it was just put CT25664BF1339 in the search engine and it will generate the product for the Crucial Brand 2GB RAM 204 pin that is compatible with this Netbook. My next step was to find a YouTube instruction video so I would know how to upgrade it since there are not screws in the back that open it up. I didn't find one for this model but I did find a video on how to upgrade the model that released right before this model(the LT4004u). I broke out my smartphone and watched the video and used a small phillips and flathead screw driver and after I took everything apart, I installed the new RAM, put it back together, and started up the computer. I had perfect success! I was a little afraid I might tear up my netbook during the upgrade process since you do have to remove the keyboard and some screws, but was careful and did just fine after learning I need to use a slight amount of elbow grease. I did inccur a small scratch where I had to get under the keyboard but its barely noticeable and well worth it! When I started it up I was able to browse the web, run my antivirus, use Windows Media Player with ease, and stil had about 40% of my RAM available. The Intel Atom proccessor works wonderful and has come a long way in the last few years. So overall, VERY HAPPY and it does about anything I do on my regular laptop minus the CD/DVD drive and being able to use extremely large programs/games which I don't use anyways. Would recommend to anyone, but DO THE RAM upgrade to get the most out of it.

Paid $199 for this net-book and well worth it. I need a portable lightweight PC to carry with me when I travel or hang out at the coffee shop. That said, it's a net-book, not a laptop and any buyer should be aware of this. Netbooks don't come with DVD-Rom drives. It also has only 1Gig RAM and Windows 7 Starter. These are non-issues for anybody who is even moderately techno-savvy. Upgrading this net-book from 1 to 2GB was an easy task and, as others on here have said, crucial for any user who may need to use several applications at once. Next I upgraded Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Pro, added a portable USB-connectable DVD-Rom drive and I have a fully functional portable PC for less than $250. (excluding Windows 7 Pro which I already owned)
Netbook - $199
DVD Drive - $25
2GB RAM - $11

By bvs1216
Everything works ok but very cheaply made. The Samsung I got before this was made much better for only $70 more. This thing is ridiculous you have to pop out the keyboard to change the ram, who thought of that! Also the keyboards don't light up meaning if you don't have a light nearby you can't use the damn thing. I have never seen a keyboard on a cellphone, laptop, netbook etc that doesn't light up. Gateway used to make great products , not its clear they are trying to save a buck pass on this one.
I will edit as I use it more: battery life is great, 6 hours and holding true to it's word unlike others that go much more quickly.
Regret buying it, it can't even play vids full screen. If all you need it for is surfing the web that's fine but I should have gone with a Samsung instead oh well
